A dream about JADE’s boyfriend at the time the song ‘FUFN’ was written has led to the creation of a true electro-pop banger. It is catchy, danceable and more than a little reminiscent of iconic albums like The Fame Monster and Blackout. It’s as though Jade has taken the lessons learned from both these albums — embracing a bold, fearless persona, while confronting deeply personal emotions, and applied them to her own work. There’s an undeniable similarity in the way JADE blends melancholy with exhilaration, offering a similar balance of vulnerability and empowerment found on Gaga’s and Britney’s best tracks. But JADE makes the sound her own, layering it with her perspective, her experiences, and her unmistakable voice.

She sings ecstatically about venting her rage and wanting one night’s space from a boyfriend that upsets her. There’s a deep thumping bassline, glittering synths, and JADE’s soaring vocals, which shift between sultry, seductive tones, and fiery, almost rebellious screams of defiance. In other words, pop maximalism at its finest. And yet there’s something more to ‘FUFN’ than just darkly rhythmic rage. While it’s undeniably about the tension between JADE and her boyfriend, it’s also about reclaiming her own identity and the freedom to express herself.

The chorus explodes with energy, each line an invitation to join in the emotional release: ‘Don’t you tell me to calm down / no more words, just f*ck you for now!’ She’s able to shift seamlessly between these vocal registers, infusing the track with an undeniable sense of emotional depth. The use of silence and space within the production is also notable. There are moments when the music drops out entirely, leaving only JADE’s voice to carry the weight of the song. These moments allow her vocals to shine and create an emotional intimacy that contrasts beautifully with the more intense sections of the track.

Undeniably, this is a great single that forebodes greater things about her as-of-yet unreleased debut album. JADE has created a fresh new track that speaks to anyone who has ever been caught in a whirlwind of emotion, a fun and enticing song that lets us scream, dance, and ultimately find catharsis in the face of frustration.
