Indie-pop band FIZZ are one of the most exciting groups in the UK scene at the moment. It’s no surprise that the supergroup is a sonic pleasure with its star-studded lineup in Dodie Clark, Orla Gartland, Greta Isaac and Martin Luke Brown. ‘I Just Died’ is a standout from their maximalist debut album The Secret to Life, released at the end of last year.

The song is extravagant, celebrating clunky instrumentals and over-the-top theatrics

The track is larger than life, implementing interesting elements that keep the listener engaged throughout. The song is extravagant, celebrating clunky instrumentals and over-the-top theatrics.  Vocally, ‘I Just Died’ is an outstanding performance, from the gentle delivery of the verses to the overzealous operatic choruses, FIZZ demonstrate how they are a real vocal powerhouse.

The track’s instrumental is exuberant, led by a strong clarinet melody which brings the track up to its massive heights

Lyrically, the track is witty and dramatic as they share the awkward details of a one-sided relationship. The embarrassment is shrouded by the track’s playfulness, sounding immensely euphoric despite the lyrical mortification. The track’s instrumental is exuberant, led by a strong clarinet melody which brings the track up to its massive heights.

Overall, ‘I Just Died’ is a greatly fun listen and a brilliant insight into the cosmic world of FIZZ.
