In the early hours of Friday, 4th October, Emergency services were swiftly dispatched to Livery Street, Birmingham, concerning reports of a disturbance outside the Tunnel Club. The nightclub was hosting a highly anticipated ‘It’s Freshers!’ event featuring numerous DJs, with students from across different cities having travelled to Birmingham to attend.

What was supposed to be a light-hearted, enjoyable night out for many new students was marred by an unexpected hit-and-run.

According to West Midlands Ambulance Service, the incident left five people hospitalised, with one individual escorted by specialists to a major trauma centre due to multiple severe injuries sustained. One local near the scene of the crime reported that they heard ‘shrieks, fighting and general ranting and raving… uncommon at that time at night’, describing the incident as ‘shocking’.

Birmingham Police is treating the collision as a targeted attack, believing the group were ‘deliberately driven at’ as a result of an ‘earlier incident inside the nightclub’, shared Chief Inspector Dave Sproson. Two men have since been arrested for the accident and taken into custody for further questioning.
