Life&Style Writers come together to share their favourite fashion looks of 2024
Claudia Jesse: Bridgeton Press Tour Suit
As if we couldn’t love Bridgeton- star, Claudia Jesse anymore! Jesse chose to re-wear the pin-stripe blue suit to both the New York Premiere for Bridgeton Season 2, and on the Late Show with Stephan Colbart. To style her premiere look she chose a chunky green heel, with elegantly slick hair and dramatic make-up. Taking a more casual approach to her interview-wear with some chunky, gold jewellery, a messy bun, and a white t-shirt- Jesse made a bold statement, you can wear the same piece in drastically different ways, and still look effortlessly chic! To pick one of these looks over the other would be impossible! Paired together, Claudia Jesse is my fashion icon of the year by prioritising sustainable fashion. As Jesse remarked on the carpet, ‘I care a lot about being as sustainable as you can, so you will see me in this suit a fair amount’ Outfit-repeating is red-carpet worthy, and Claudia Jesse proves it!
Sabrina Carpenter: Short ‘N Spooky
One of Sabrina Carpenter’s most notable tour outfits is from her Dallas show, in which she adorned a variety of iconic halloween costumes, from Grease’s Sandy to Disney’s Tinkerbell. The best was her playboy bunny costume which, as well as suiting the sexy and fun theme of her shows, made a hilarious comeback to all of the criticism of her ‘inappropriate’ outfits. Carpenter has stuck to her guns, and continues to deliver one of the most successful tours of this year. With many more outfit variations to come, all eyes will be on Sabrina Carpenter, one of 2024’s style icons.
Ariana Grande: Wicked Press Tour
Ariana Grande’s looks for the ‘Wicked’ film press tour have not shied away from her character Glinda’s signature colour: pink. My favourite of these looks has to be the from the first premiere in Sydney. This beautiful Vivienne Westwood gown pays homage to the original Glinda in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, bringing a modern twist with a dropped waist corset and a square neckline. The ballgown is accessorised perfectly with a statement Lorraine Schwartz butterfly choker, which I greatly appreciate in this necklace-less era of celebrity fashion. Grande’s recent style has embodied Glinda on and off screen, campy yet beautiful.
Zendaya: Met Gala
As co-chair of the 2024 Met Gala, it’s unsurprising that Zendaya pulled out all the stops for her (multiple) outfits. The most talked about was her look inspired by a 1999 Dior Dress, as an omen to the exhibition ‘reawakening fashion’ as an elegant pairing of dark and romantic. The dress, designed by John Galliano, was a two-toned deep emerald and electric blue, with hand painted details of leaves and grapes nodding to the theme of ‘Garden of Time’. In case the dress itself wasn’t enough to wow people, it was paired with a deep red and almost villainous makeup look to tie everything together.
Bella Hadid: Cannes Film Festival
Bella Hadid attended a variety of events at this year’s Cannes Film Festival including Chopard’s ‘Once Upon a Time’ evening held at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc. The supermodel wore a long silver gown from Dsquared2’s Fall/ Winter 2006 collection which featured a backless silhouette and crystal chain straps, giving a dramatic yet glamourous effect. Bella accessorised the look with silver open-toe heels from Giuseppe Zanotti and Chopard jewellery including a diamond pendant necklace and matching drop earrings. This was styled with a slick back bun paired with a side parting and glowy, natural makeup. This timeless look not only celebrated Bella’s partnership with Chopard but highlighted her as a style icon at Cannes Film Festival.
Naomi Osaka: US Open
2024 was the year of bows on everything, and no one took that more literally than tennis player Naomi Osaka. Her US Open kit, designed by Nike, featured bows on the warm-up jacket, headphones and heels of her tennis shoes, all in the same shade of tennis ball green. Beyond the bows, I loved the ruffled skirt and halter neck style of the dress, separated by a white strip of fabric tied in, you guessed it, a bow. Outfits in the sport can often be basic, but Osaka provided a maximalist look with this custom ensemble inspired by her native Japan and intended to evoke confidence.
