When The Traitors UK ended in January, my evenings felt empty. Whilst all my assignments piled up, I desperately missed the intense round table discussions (and Claudia Winkleman’s iconic fringe). The thought of having to wait an entire year was unbearable – that is until I stumbled upon the Australian version of the show, and I was introduced to the chaotic world of The Traitors Australia.

So, how different is it from The Traitors UK? The premise is basically exactly the same: a group of contestants will either become a “traitor” or a “faithful”. The traitors must work together to murder the faithful, while the faithful attempt to work out who’s doing the murdering – all in the hopes of winning a grand prize.

Meeting the eclectic cast of Season 1 of The Traitors Australia was enough to know I was going to devour this show in one sitting.

When I pressed play on BBC iPlayer, I thought nothing could beat the level of entertainment the British public received from Season 3 of The Traitors UK: I was wrong. Meeting the eclectic cast of Season 1 of The Traitors Australia was enough to know I was going to devour this show in one sitting. A personal favourite of mine was Chloe, a clairvoyant who stated she could use her psychic powers to find out who the traitors are. I will not confirm or deny whether any of Chloe’s predictions came true…but it is certainly a spellbinding ride.

if you cannot wait for The Traitors UK to return, the Australian version is definitely for you.

It just gets even better with Season 2. Unlike the UK version, when banishments lead to tears and heartfelt goodbyes, The Australians use their final words to insult the intelligence of the remaining faithfuls (as they should, because I was also in disbelief the entire time). This season also takes traitor-on-traitor crime to a whole new level – it is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys a whole lot of conflict in reality TV.

It is time to acknowledge how underrated Australian TV is on a worldwide basis, they have created some of the funniest and most iconic shows – I have watched Chris Lilley’s Summer Heights High way too many times, and I’m so happy that I get to add The Traitors Australia to that list. So, if you cannot wait for The Traitors UK to return, the Australian version is definitely for you. I for one am about to go down the rabbit hole of every country’s version of The Traitors, while also diving further into the landscape of Australian television.
