News Editor Tamara Greatrix covers the recent red-carpet drama involving world-famous pop star Chappell Roan
Disclaimer: foul language and cursing
The ‘Pink Pony Club’ musician labelled a photographer as ‘rude’, and ‘disrespectful’ while attending close friend Olivia Rodrigo’s tour movie premier on Friday night.
The 26-year-old soared to international fame in recent months, with her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, proving to be a hit. However, things haven’t been entirely plain sailing, as Roan confronted the photographer who allegedly yelled at her at the MTV Music Video Awards in September.
Last month at the VMAs ceremony, she had a heated exchange with a paparazzi member, snapping at them, stating, ‘You shut the f*** up. No, not me, b***h.’ This photographer appeared to be working the night of Olivia Rodrigo’s premiere. Chappell is reported to have confronted the photographer on Friday night (25th October), as she is seen posing on the red carpet before she pointed at them and said, ‘You were so disrespectful to me at the VMA’s.’ She continued, ‘I deserve an apology for that. You need to apologise to me.’
In August, the singer hinted that her growing fandom online made her uncomfortable, and she felt overwhelmed by the fan culture, calling out invasive behaviour in a TikTok video. Roan stated, ‘Please stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends. Please stop assuming things about me.’
When interviewed in September, Roan told Entertainment Tonight: ‘The carpet is horrifying, and I yelled back. You don’t get to yell at me like that’, confirming that she finds the environment ‘overwhelming’ and ‘scary.’
She also explained to The Guardian how she has witnessed her life change entirely due to the perils of being in the public eye, even revealing that she was diagnosed with ‘severe depression’, which she said was unexpected as she’s ‘not actually sad.’
It is unclear from the video whether the photographer did apologise to the star. However, another person was seen to intervene before the clip ended
