Redbrick supports the Black Lives Matter movement and shares a resource list to help educate about systemic racism and anti-blackness
We, as a student community, have work to do. Black Lives Matter transcends beyond Instagram; it extends beyond a hashtag. The demonstrations and riots across the world have been at the forefront of the news over the last couple of weeks, however this is not just a news story.
The fight against systemic and ingrained racism and anti-blackness is one that we must tackle, no matter how uncomfortable. It’s important to understand that this is not just a problem in the USA, but rather a worldwide one, as generations of Black communities across the world have been subjected to systemic discrimination and violence.
We as a publication affiliated with the Guild of Students are committing to elevating the voices of Black students and ensuring that your stories are told. For us, this is not a solitary news story, but is rather a wake-up call to stop failing the Black community.
For now, we must all reflect, learn, and aim to end deep rooted racism. Please use some of the resources we have linked in our bio to educate yourselves so together we can support the Black community and battle oppression.
During this difficult time, using this platform has never been more important to share resources relating to the Black Lives Matter movement. There are lots of petitions and donation pages floating around the internet at the moment, so Redbrick wanted to highlight a few of the ways you can support and educate yourself about BLM, whether you can afford to donate or not.
