Several weeks ago, Call of Duty released a first look at Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode. The video seemingly confirms a new chapter in the storyline titled ‘Die Maschine.’ Additionally, it confirms the return of many features, while also introducing new elements to the formula. Without further ado, let’s see what Treyarch have created so far for the newest Zombies experience.

Early on, Lead Writer Craig Houston and Expert Game Designer Kevin Drew discuss the new story on offer, stating that they are starting fresh. For those familiar with Black Ops 1’s campaign, we see Weaver return to the franchise. It appears that the Campaign and Zombies modes will no longer be entirely separated. Along with this we see a different time period, being The Cold War, much like the rest of the game. A new character by the name of Sam is also revealed, who provides a tape for Weaver to watch. We have yet to see how much more involved she becomes, but we can see the importance of this tape, as we soldiers massacred by the zombie hordes.

Throughout the trailer we see a variety of returning features, some which did not feature in Black Ops 4 zombies. Most notably, Juggernog is returning to the formula, after being omitted from Black Ops 4 Zombies. Perhaps the most popular perk in the mode, it was necessary to bring back such an important staple. Alongisde Juggernog, we also see the Speed Cola and Quick Revive machines. I for one am hopeful that we will have an experience more attributed to Black Ops 3 than Black Ops 4. Furthermore, the mystery box is also revealed, so expect to see some exciting new weapons inside.

Yet again, the iconic Nacht Der Untoten returns! However, this version of Nacht looks somewhat different. Graffiti covers the exterior walls, and it seems like there is more to it than meets the eye.

A few other elements of previous Zombies experiences return as seen in the video. Yet again, the iconic Nacht Der Untoten returns! However, this version of Nacht looks somewhat different. Graffiti covers the exterior walls, and it seems like there is more to it than meets the eye. Like Alpha Omega in Black Ops 4, it seems like there is an underground bunker to explore, filled with the undead. There also appears to be a strange device that is hooked up to some cables within the bunker.

Houston and Drew discuss many of the general changes coming to Cold War Zombies. Yes, classic perks have returned, but it seems like Gobblegums may not be making the cut. We see a new machine, named ‘Elemental Pop,’ that could potentially replace Gobblegums. Whether it will is yet to be confirmed.

A sentry gun is also seen in the first look. There could be several ways a player can access it. Potentially it works like the traps of previous maps, or maybe it is a buildable weapon that you can place anywhere; it is yet to be known. What we assume to be a new wonder weapon is also revealed! It is blue and looks like the Thundergun or Jet Gun. In terms of weapons, Houston and Drew also state that players will have a tactical, lethal and support slot. Additionally, they mention the ability to craft or pickup weapons and equipment, but you can use them simultaneously. It will be interesting to see the newest technology available at players’ disposal.

Like mentioned previously with Zombies and Campaign, Zombies and Multiplayer will share a bond. Leveling up seems to be unified across both gamemodes. Because of this, scorestreaks and weapons that are unlocked translate over to both gamemodes. With this, guns can also seemingly upgrade as you level up to become more powerful, again across both modes.

Escaping the zombies map also has been confirmed, by Houston. This is not through completing an easter egg. Rather, you call a chopper to escape in. As a result, it offers the opportunity to stop playing when you want to without dying, which is an interesting choice to add.

For the first time with Zombies, post-launch content will be dropping for free! Crossplay will also be available!

Finally, Treyarch confirm something that many fans will be happy with. For the first time with Zombies, post-launch content will be dropping for free! Crossplay will also be available! They could be making a very smart choice by offer free content after launch, as it will result in the community keeping close and sharing experiences.

Hopefully Call of Duty release another trailer for Cold War Zombies soon. It is looking exciting due fan favorite features returning, whilst new elements enter the game.  If not, write the 13th November down in your diaries as that is when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War drops.
