New Years resolutions, you either love them or hate them. However, the rise of the TikTok trend ‘Ins and Outs’ for 2024 has changed that narrative completely. Setting realistic and achievable goals has helped many young women figure out the little steps they must take in order to better themselves for the future.

My ‘Ins’ for 2024 were very typical but also unique to myself; getting back into the gym in order to better my physical and mental health, taking more time to look after myself in terms of mental health and just be happy, peaceful, and content within myself. The first is very typical of many young women and I can admit I haven’t had the chance to start going to the gym again since I’ve been really busy. Social media really enforces this image of having the perfect body and being ‘that girl’, but I truly believe happiness begins within yourself and how you perceive yourself. Other perceptions do not really matter, as trends usually fade out one way or another.

I truly believe that young women in this day and age are pushed to their limits

I have not really thought about my ‘Outs’ for 2024, but one of my main Outs would be to stop overworking myself to the point of mental burnout and exhaustion. We can only work as hard as we can and this relates back to the perception of the hardworking young woman on social media once again. I truly believe that young women in this day and age are pushed to their limits, with these constant expectations from others.

We can never take the time out for ourselves but I would like to switch that narrative. We all have our limits and overworking these will not help us in the long run, so when something seems too difficult or hard to grasp, that is your sign to take a break and do not regret that. Taking time out for yourself really helps you become better for yourself and others in the long run.

…tailoring New Years resolutions uniquely to yourself and taking one step at a time can truly help you become the best version of yourself

‘Ins and Outs’ is a wonderful trend for young women across the globe, showing that tailoring New Years resolutions uniquely to yourself and taking one step at a time can truly help you become the best version of yourself. Trends are always about living in the moment and being like others but one thing I love about Ins and Outs is how there is no rush or fast pacing within the trend. It may not even be classified as a trend to be honest as there are so many versatile approaches towards it.

One example of the versatility of the Ins and Outs trend is Bookstagram (similar to BookTok, book influencers on the social media platform Instagram) taking their approach to the Ins and Outs trend. Although mainstream book trends are in, such as shopping at big name book outlets like Waterstones, one which has really stood out to me was going second-hand book shopping. Helping the environment by going second-hand book shopping, in places such as charity shops, as well as getting numerous books for cheap prices is definitely one thing I’ll try to be doing more this year.

…we will live for ourselves and with no regrets

Overall, the Ins and Outs trend is truly amazing. Seeing so many young women tailor New Years resolutions to themselves and not caring about other people’s perceptions of themselves is really refreshing to see. It gives me hope that young women are truly changing the narrative this year, we will live for ourselves and with no regrets about this.
