“My Mind and Me”

by Halima Ahad

I have written this poem to shine a light on the stigma that is present in society today surrounding mental health issues. I hope this poem gives a voice to those who may be struggling to speak out about their own mental health issues and reassure them that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

My mind and me, it’s a strange thing you see.

Sometimes it can be the best day of my life,

other days the worst.

My mind and me.

My mind and me, trying to navigate my way the through life I see.

Numerous things piling up in my mind, but

I try to learn to take a step back every day.

My mind and me.

My mind and me, a complicated thing battling with the conflicting

feelings in my heart you see.

I try to see life with a different view and with others before me.

My mind and me.

My mind and me, every day is a new beginning you see.

You can’t have the sunflowers without rain, so

growth is necessary.

My mind and me.
