A police investigation has been launched after a 16-year-old boy was shot dead in Birmingham.
The boy, who has now been identified as Diego Henry, was found with gunshot wounds on the 5th of November in Lighthorne Avenue, Ladywood around 12:30 pm.
It was reported that the West Midlands Ambulance Service received a call around 12:26 pm. Two ambulances including two paramedic officers, trauma doctor, and a critical care paramedic were sent immediately to the scene of crime. The boy was found in a critical condition and was immediately administered with advanced life support, but it was revealed that he died the following Tuesday due to his serious injuries.

‘This is the tragic death of a young man who should have had his life ahead of him’, said Chief Inspector Sara Beech. ‘Our thoughts are with all his family and friends at what is an incredibly painful time.’
Diego’s mother also expressed her grief, calling her son a ‘well-mannered young man’, known to ‘easily put a smile on anyone’s face.’
‘Diego will be sadly missed by his mother, father, siblings and exceedingly large circle of family and friends.’ said the mother of the 16-year-old. ‘Diego always expressed a passion for music and would be seen singing, dancing, or rapping wherever he was.’
After the grave incident, neighbourhood officers were seen around the area on Tuesday to offer reassurance and support for anybody with concerns.
The continuing investigation of the incident also revealed that a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He currently remains on police bail.

During the course of this investigation, West Midlands police further reported that officers searching shrublands near the canal area also discovered the body of a 17-year old boy on the 12th November. A forensic post mortem examination is due to take place to determine the cause of his death.
‘This is a complex investigation and a tragic set of circumstances.’ said Det Supt Shaun Edwards, from the West Midlands Police homicide team. ‘My sympathies truly remain with the families of both boys.’
