Music Editor Aimee Sargeant previews OMD’s latest tour ‘Architecture & More’, describing it as exciting considering the band is still at the very top of their game
OMD, also known as Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, have announced that they are going on a UK Arena Tour during November 2021. ‘Architecture and More’ will see the band perform songs from their legendary back catalogue which includes songs from the album Architecture & Morality. The band was formed in the late ‘70s in Liverpool and still includes the core members Paul Humpreys and Andy McCluskey. Following the release of their self-titled debut album, they have gone on to release 12 more records. The latest of these records was released in 2017 – The Punishment of Luxury.

2021 marks the 40th anniversary since Architecture & Morality was released. One of the most influential works of the 80s, it has sold over four million copies and included three hit singles: ‘Souvenir,’ ‘Joan Of Arc’ and ‘Maid of Orleans.’ The singles all reached the top five in the UK, and they sold a total of eight million copies combined. These hit singles are being re-released on 12” vinyl to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Architecture & Morality. OMD are pioneers for the synth-pop world of music, helping to pave the way for electronic music in the 1980s. Their music was both experimental and innovative, they influenced artists such as Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and later MGMT.
In their own words: ‘The success of Architecture and Morality took us all by surprise. The three singles ‘Souvenir’, ‘Joan of Arc’, and ‘Maid of Orleans’ all went top five in the UK. To this day they remain the “Holy Trinity” in the middle of our live stage performance and the audience reaction is always rapturous.’

After months of not being able to see live music, the nostalgia and community that will be felt during this tour is going to be amazing. Especially considering this is a band that are unquestionably still at the very top of their game. I for one, am very excited.
