Architectural Digest’s ‘Open Door’ series allows us to step into the homes of Hollywood’s elite as we are given personal tours by the celebrities themselves. This series is perfect for those that want to catch a glimmer into the homes of the rich and famous and for interior lovers that want to listen to them recount how each piece of furniture was chosen, upholstered and placed just right.

1. Dita Von Teese’s home befitting pinup royalty

Dita may have one of the most glamorous homes to be shown on ‘Open Door’. In fact, it would be hard to argue otherwise as her entire home looks like it was inspired by THAT green velvet couch. The house itself is a remodelled ‘1927 English Tudor’ showcasing collections of vintage furniture and décor, including everything from a flea market found dining table to a room dedicated solely to Louboutins and a Burlesque hat collection. She priorities glamour over productivity, as her home is lined with antique mirrors, which she acknowledges ‘you can’t actually see yourself in.’ Dita’s home proves a time capsule to her iconic career- the walls are lined with original burlesque corsets from movies such as Gypsy- and is truly an ode to all the legendary pin-up models that have come before her.

2. Dakota Johnson and her limes that broke the internet

Dakota’s home is hidden behind rows of sky-high bamboo and mounting greenery, giving her some much-needed privacy, whilst also creating a rustic and outdoorsy feel throughout the entire home. She has opted for open spaces where natural light and stunning nature views create the overall vibe of the house, with wood panelling being one of the key feature points. Dakota’s home minimally and effortlessly displays what is most important to her and is one of the only celebrity homes I’ve seen on ‘Open Door’ that doesn’t revel in excess. Her home office is one of the most beautiful, landscape driven rooms seen on the tour, with oakwood bookshelves running the length of one wall and a desk that faces a set of double doors that opens into the garden. Still, it was her kitchen that ended up going viral after the internet fell in love with her green cabinets, herb collections and a well-placed dish of towering limes. Dakota later revealed that she is actually allergic to limes, but her home still remains one of the most memorable on AD’s ‘Open Door’.

3. Lily Aldridge’s English countryside inspired home

Lily Aldridge proclaims her house to be ‘the English countryside meets Morocco’ as she welcomes us inside. The living room is full of vibrant pops of colour and velvet tub chairs and children’s toy’s littering most surfaces- it’s clear that this room is well lived in. The family room features a large open space with swinging hammock chairs, a 90s rainbow collection of Penguin books and fabric walls that amount to an even cosier feel. One of the most dream-like rooms in the house has to be the bathroom, which feels as though it has been taken from every self-care lover’s Pinterest board. A red carpet leads up to a bathtub in the centre of the room, whilst jars of bath salts and candles line the surfaces. Each room has its own way of fitting the serene and zen vibe that fills her entire home.

4. Shay Mitchell brings 1920s Spain to Los Angeles

Shay Mitchell’s home very closely reflects her laid back and minimal online persona. She takes us on a tour of her 1920s built Mediterranean home accompanied by her interior designer Chad Wood. Each piece of décor seems to have a story attached that details Shay’s travels around the world, with wanderlust being an ever-present theme in the house. The rooms are carefully decorated with vintage Moroccan finds, all centred around a Spanish spiralling staircase adorned with teal tiles, a stunning and focal element of the home. The entertainment room has clearly been modelled with comfort and relaxation in mind, the large and airy space brimming with rainbow bookshelves, vinyl collections and of course, a newly incorporated bar, studded with gifts from her celebrity friends. Shay’s home is a space that inspires travel and adventure, whilst also being a place you would never want to leave.

5. Tommy Hilfiger’s New York City penthouse

Tommy Hilfiger and his wife Dee Ocleppo take us on a tour of their penthouse suite at The Plaza. The entire floor incorporates luxury design and historical fashion moments into its décor, featuring a grand dining room that looks as though it could be in The Met. Dee takes us through a French Bistro she designed to lead on from the dining room, with walls painted the signature Tommy Hilfiger red. Hilfiger’s home office is made up of several accolades from his career as well as art pieces gifted from the likes of Mick Jagger and Karl Lagerfeld, with perhaps the most impressive piece being an original ‘The New York Times’ sign taken from their first-ever headquarters. For the couple, location is key. Their bedroom terrace overlooks Central Park as they remark that it is the hotel’s historical guests such as Marilyn Monroe and The Rolling Stones that have left the biggest mark on the penthouse.
