Food&Drink Editor Gabrielle Taylor-Dowson shares all the juicy details about this weekend’s Foodies Festival happening at Cannon Hill Park
If you’re looking for something to fill your time (and your belly) this weekend, then Foodies Festival at Cannon Hill Park is the place for you.
From Friday June 21st until Sunday the 23rd, Cannon Hill Park is home to Foodies Festival. Revelers can expect to be met by a smorgasbord of treats from artisan producers as well as celebrity cooking demonstrations, drinks masterclasses and chilli-eating contests. As well as all of this, what makes Foodies so great is, in my opinion, the talent it draws from its home, the city of Birmingham itself. Foodies Festival is returning for its fifth year, and with each new year a new hearty helping of culinary genius is drawn from the city. This year, that includes the ‘Yummy Brummie’ Glynn Purnell and Michelin-starred chef Brad Carter of Carters in Moseley, Birmingham. If you’re looking for further reason as to why these chefs are such a big deal, Carters has just been placed in the top 100 restaurants list compiled by Restaurant magazine and has also nabbed the No. 1 Fit For Foodies award by OpenTable reviewers!
What’s more, it’s not just these two amazing local chefs on the line-up. James Wong of The Chung Ying Restaurant Group in Birmingham is also in attendance, as is Jacques Van Der Merwe who is opening a highly anticipated restaurant in a converted HSBC bank in Knowles later this year.
But as well as being a star-studded, super-entertaining day, Foodies Festival is also doing its bit for charity. For a second year the festival will host the Musicians Against Homelessness music stage as part of its bid to support Crisis UK. For every ticket sold, the festival will donate to the charity. Music-lovers can see top Queen (whose songs have featured in multiple Abba vs. Queen night’s at Players Bar, a tamer throwback to those messy Stupid Tuesdays) and Chic tribute bands as well as a host of emerging bands and soloists.
With the weather due to be clearing up nicely for the weekend, I can’t think of anything better than indulging in some delicious food and drink whilst perusing the various stalls and watching all of the shows at Foodies Festival, all against the backdrop of our green and beautiful Cannon Hill Park.
If you want to join more than 25,000 others getting in on the fun this weekend, you can get your tickets here.
