TV writer Eleaner Cross showcases the best campmates from ITV’s hit jungle show
10. Christopher Biggins
Series 7
Winner of season 7, he was one of the funniest and most cheerful campmates, plus the image of him chowing down on a crocodile penis has been etched in my mind for over a decade. He brought joy to the camp and to the viewers, making great television.
9. Mylene Klass
Series 6
She will be forever known for her iconic bikini shower scene, but that’s not all Mylene brought to the camp. She was an ever bubbly campmate and excited to try anything that came her way. She went on to host the second (and final) series of I’m a Celebrity (US), clearly showing her time in the jungle resonated far after she finished in second place.
8. Janice Dickinson
Series 7
From the same season as Biggins, Janice was a firm favourite for me because her Americanisms really contrasted with all the other British campmates. She was so loud and extravagant in all her actions, especially Bush Tucker trials. Whilst some may have found her repeated ‘Oh Man’ annoying, it became a joke to keep tally of, and provided ever more entertainment in the camp.
7. Lady Colin Campbell
Series 15
Lady Colin was the most abrasive person I have ever seen on the show, and she is on this list for this reason. She caused more arguments and fights than any other campmate and it made season 15 all the more entertaining. Although hated by the nation, we couldn’t have imagined the series without the drama inflicted by Lady Collin, and for that we are grateful.
6. Gino Di Campo
Series 9
Gino is such a hilarious person to watch (I’d recommend watching his This Morning cooking segment for proof) and he was no different in the jungle. Crowned as king this season, he was a constant source of humour and entertainment in camp. His bushtucker trial with Hollyoaks actor Stuart Manning still goes viral once a year as one of the funniest trials to date, reminding everyone of how much comedic value he brought to the show that year.
5. Gillian McKeith
Series 10
The time she ‘passed out‘ on a live bush tucker trial is one of the most talked about scenes in all of the seasons of I’m a Celeb. Plus, she was, for lack of better words, a total wimp. As frustrating as she was to watch, it was also absolutely hilarious.
4. Fatima Whitbread
Series 11
She has to make this list simply for the time a cockroach crawled right up her nose and she barely even flinched. She was power and determination in human form, and really encapsulated what I’m a Celeb contestants should strive to be in their challenges. As much fun as it is to watch someone screaming in fear, its equally entertaining to watch someone simply embrace the grotesque elements of the show.
3. Joel Dommett
Series 16
Joel was runner up on season 16, and as a comedian, it’s not shock that he was funny the whole way through, audiences liked him so much he wasn’t voted to do a Bush tucker trial even once. He and fellow campmate Carol Vorderman discussing the square root of Pi with as much excitement as a kid on Christmas was particularly funny.
2. Dougie Poynter
Series 11
Dougie worked hard, was entertaining to watch, and was completely inoffensive. He embraced every element of the jungle experience, including emotionally expressing his frustration and difficulties when he needed to. He was everything you want in a campmate and more. Additionally, I loved Mcfly and Dougie was adorable the whole way through the season, so that helped.
1. Joe Swash
Series 8
Forever my favourite contestant. He was funny and friends with everyone in the camp, and he came up with the ‘Olly Olly Olly’ song that my friends and I used to sing all the time when I was 11. He made everything more gross and horrifying than they needed to be, a perfect prime time watch. Joe is also now the host of Im a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Now, with his girlfriend, Stacey Solomon who was also a contestant in season 10.
Notable mentions must include: Matt Willis, Vicky Pattinson, Martin Andrews, Georgia Toffolo, Scarlett Moffatt, and Kim Woodburn.
