Life and Style Writer Antonia Miles shares her best tips for updating the usually summer associated playsuit to wear in the winter months
If like me, playsuits become your go-to item over the summer, do not fear that they need to make a sudden disappearance now the onset of colder weather and winter are here to stay. As one of the most versatile wardrobe staples you can invest in, it’s easy enough to make playsuits autumn and winter ready, by following these simple tips!
1. Swap your flats for knee high boots
Knee high boots are really on trend right now so why not try swapping the flat ballerina pumps you accessorized your playsuit with over summer for some over the knee boots? They look really chic and will keep your legs warm as the temperature drops.
2. Invest in tights
Consider layering your playsuit over a pair of knitted tights for those chilly winter days. In all manner of Blair Waldorf, I’m a huge fan of wearing brightly coloured tights under a plain one colour playsuit, red being my personal preference.
3. Layer Up
As always in winter, layering is a fashionista’s best friend. To create a perfectly preppy look for around campus, try wearing a turtleneck sweater under a low-neck playsuit.
4. Peter Pan Collars
Peter pan collars have made such a welcomed comeback this A/W. A white or black Peter Pan collar adds the perfect preppy touch to your playsuit, particularly when contrasted against deep autumn hues of burgundy and 70s style rustic shades of mustard and orange.
5. 70s Chic
It’s safe to say that spaghetti strapped playsuits belong in summer. To adapt your favourite wardrobe essential, opt for long sleeved or batwing sleeved playsuits for a smooth transition into winter and tick another essential style box for this season; 70s chic is seriously in this season.
6. Trench Coat Glam
One of the most important questions on everyone’s lips is how to dress practically for the cold weather but to look glam at the same time. One of the simplest ways to solve this problem is to adapt your playsuit for winter wear by throwing a long trench coat over it. It looks really glam but ticks the practicality coat. For extra style kudos, invest in an oversized scarf for a layered boho look.
