This year’s Golden Globes have, like everything else, made the move online. What has not changed is the immaculate style and fashion served up from some old and new movie star favourites. Here is a sampling of the top five celebrities who wore it best.

1. Viola Davis

Nominated for her performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Viola Davis dazzles in a colourful mermaid dress by Cameroonian designer Claude Kameni. Her stylist Elizabeth Stewart told Vogue that the print was ‘inspired by African Royalty’ and that the dress ‘is all about rethinking glamour and couture on the red carpet in the age of diversity and inclusivity’. The shape, colours, patterns and delighted smile of Viola Davis have earned this dress the top spot.

2. Anya Taylor Joy

The chic star of The Queen’s Gambit and winner of best actress for a mini-series has outdone herself once more with this stunning green number by Dior. A plunging neckline cinches in at the waist and then blooms out into a full, floor-length tailored skirt, all in a muted shimmering emerald. The dress is set off beautifully by Anya’s sleek platinum hair, delicate crystal necklace and matching heels.

3. Cynthia Erivo

Some have likened this dress to a lampshade, and it must be the first time that this comparison is complimentary. The bright lime green is striking against Erivo’s skin tone, and the stiff shape lends the dress a unique movement and presence on the carpet. Paired with long creamy gloves and insane high silver heels, this iconic dress, once seen, will never be forgotten.

4. Gillian Anderson

This quirky yet elegant dress suits Gillian Anderson perfectly. The flowing pleated skirt is speckled with gold lame and the circular breast-piece is made up of dark chartreuse velvet with inlays of lace, leading into a halter neck. Perhaps you know her from her role in Sex Education, but tonight, Gillian Anderson took home a golden globe for best supporting actress in a television series, The Crown.

5. Jackson Lee

We end our best-dressed list with Jackson Lee’s suave suit-silk kimono combo. The Gucci kimono steals the show: deep green with spirals of gold, and with sleeves bordered in hot pink. Topped with an oversize pair of sunglasses this look certainly hit the spot.
