Gorillaz’s new single ‘New Gold’ is a collaboration featuring Tame Impala and Bootie Brown. Alongside this release, Gorillaz have announced their new album Cracker Island, which is expected in February of 2023. The band is made up of the virtual avatars 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, Russel Hobbs and headed by Damon Albarn. Fans can expect further collaborations on their eighth studio album.

Kevin Parker, vocalist for Tame Impala, lends his signature dreamlike vocals to the track with American rapper Bootie Brown, a long-time collaborator with Gorillaz. ‘New Gold’ is catchy and up-tempo, feeling comparable to many of Tame Impala’s synth dance tracks. Brown cuts through Parker’s psychedelic chorus with a verse that perfectly complements the electronic disco-funk feel of the single.

First debuting at All Points East festival 2022, ‘New Gold’ gained plenty of traction before its official release date through growing hype for the track on popular video sharing app TikTok. Although ‘New Gold’ may not make the same impact that many past iconic singles released by Gorillaz have, the track is certainly making waves across the internet, assisted by the virality that comes with collaborating with a band like Tame Impala. The vocal mix of Parker, Brown, and Albarn blends seamlessly against the electronic beats of Gorillaz, resulting in a single that is definitely worth a listen.
